This is a very large 19th century French coverlet or quilt dating to about 1870. It is made from printed cotton with beautiful bouquets of roses in decorative cartouches and is edged with a narrow binding of a similar contemporary cotton. It has been hand quilted and backed with ivory cotton. It has no batting, so designed as a lightweight coverlet or bedspread.

It is in very good condition, it looks as if it has hardly been used, there is some slight wear to the lining, but not serious.

It measures about 102″ by 94″ or 2.6 meters by 2.4 meters and weighs about 2.5kg (overseas buyers please be aware that postage is quite high on weights above 2kg)

This is quite an early piece, delicate and with some damage, see photos, I am not sure about it’s date, but possibly 18th century, perhaps a little earlier. The front is heavily patched and pieced from red silk that it splitting in places, with gold spangles and applied motifs (either wool or linen) edged and decorated with gold thread. The pelmet is trimmed with gold passementerie – braid to the top and sides and bullion trim to the bottom.

It is lined with red silk damask, this is faded and split in the centre.

While the whole panel is very worn, it is a very old piece, full of character and decorative potential.

It measures about 83″ by 12″ or 2.10 meters by 30cms and weighs about 800g.

This is a beautiful woolwork chair back cover, French I think, dating to about 1750-80 with its distinctive styalised flowers and paisley-influenced leaves. It has little cut outs on the lower edges where the chair’s arms protruded.

It is in very good condition, however it is quite faded in places and there are a couple of small holes near the lower edge that only really show when held to the light. The woolwork area measures about 31″ by 27″ or 79cms by 68.5cm.

This is a large panel of woolwork on linen canvas, dating somewhere between 1750-1800 I think. It measures about 48″ by 25″ or 1.22m y 63.5cms. The colours are still quite bright & strong but there is some loss of stitching in little patches across the whole panel where a particular dye may have had an iron mordant which is often the culprit for thread of a particular colour rotting away over time. However the overall effect is still quite glorious with large cornucopia-shaped flowers surrounded by delicate blooms.
