19thc Quilt SOLD

This is a beautiful mid 19th century French quilted panel with a beautiful floral design on the front and earlier late 18th century indigo dyed woven striped cotton on the reverse, this backing is patched and darned using a few different but similar fabrics giving the piece a wonderful rustic look. It is hand quilted with a thin layer of fleece batting that has become slightly uneven over the years giving the panel a stiffish finish.

The floral cotton on the front is in good condition, the surface of the cotton looks slightly rubbed in places, but the colours are bright and fresh, the top edge has some tiny rust marks and a few tiny holes on the edge where it looks asit it has been nailed in place at some point.

It measures about 46″ by 70″ or 1.17m by 1.78m and weighs about 1.2kg, please check these measurements with your bed to see how it will look.  A lovely peice to use to top a double, single bed or daybed, to hang as a wallhanging or fold into an armoire with other textile treasures.
